Knocked Down But Not Out
Pastor Ken Vance
2 Corinthians 4:7-9 (TPT) We are like common clay jars that carry this glorious treasure within, so that the extraordinary overflow of power will be seen as God's, not ours. Though we experience every kind of pressure, we're not crushed. At times we don't know what to do, but quitting is not an option. We are persecuted by others, but God has not forsaken us. We may be knocked down, but not out.

When I was a kid, there was a toy that we used to play with called “Weebles.” The catchphrase of Weebles was, “Weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down.” You could push a Weeble over, and it would immediately stand back up because it’s weighted in the bottom-center of the toy. When pushed over, the weight would trigger the force of gravity to cause it to immediately rise back up. That’s why a Weeble wobbles but doesn’t fall down.

I believe that is what the Apostle Paul had in mind when he wrote the above verse. In Christ, we have our foundation set. In Christ, we have the power of God residing in us. This is why he said we have treasure in common clay jars, so power is seen to be God’s and not ours. We have the Spirit of God residing in us because of Jesus, and He has given us the ability to rise no matter what attempts to push us down. We can trust that greater is the one in us than the one that is in the world.

We need to have a buoyant spirit of faith, trusting that we have in us the ability to always come back up whenever life tries to push us down. Hard times and difficulties may attempt to discourage us and drain us, but having a buoyant spirit of faith means that when we get pushed down, we always get back up. The scriptures teach us that it is through faith and endurance we receive the promises of God. Endurance is the ability to sustain difficulty without quitting which is what God’s power works through to help us rise every time.

The greatest mistake we can make during difficult times is to give up. When the issues of life come to shove us down, we need to shake off the distress, despair, and discouragement that accompany them and remember who is in us! We need to remember the treasure we have inside clay jars. God’s power works greatest in our weakness, and that is where our trust resides. The one in us gives us the ability to rise no matter what. We need to adopt a catchphrase like a Weeble: “We may wobble, but we don’t stay down!”

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you that I am more than a conqueror in Christ. No matter what comes my way, I trust in the power you have put in me to overcome. I believe your Spirit resides in me, and He gives me all I need to stand. Therefore I declare I am strong in You and the power of Your might. No matter what comes against me to knock me down, I will rise and overcome because greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. That is my faith. I believe that it is the victory that overcomes the world because I am in Christ! Thank you, Father, for causing me to triumph in Christ Jesus, my Lord! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
