Time is flying; time is dragging. Time is standing still! During this COVID-19 pandemic, time seems to have taken on a whole new meaning. Our schedules have been disrupted, and our routines have been upended. And nothing feels as it is supposed to be. Yet in the middle of all of this, there is one constant. Time marches on. The clock continues, and the days go by. With all the change, it is easy to let the circumstances of our lives dictate what happens next and how we will react! But we need to remember the word from Ecclesiastes 3:1(NKJV) “To everything, there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” Every season, including the one we find ourselves in right now, has a timing to it. As I shared before, COVID-19 did not catch God off guard. It wasn’t like He said, “Wow! Didn’t see that coming!” No, God knows where we are right now, and He knows exactly what we need, and when we need it. We need to heed the Word of the Lord, spoken through the Prophet Isaiah when he said in Isaiah 28:16 (KJV) “Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.”
God has laid for us a foundation stone – one that holds us up and secures our life. It is a precious stone because it was paid for and put into place at the cost of Jesus’ life-blood! It is a sure foundation that we stand on like a rock in the middle of a turbulent storm. No matter how much the wind, waves, and rain of COVID-19 beat upon our spiritual house, it will stand because it is founded upon “The Rock” of the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen! (Matthew 7:24-25) He is the way, the truth, and the life, and as long as we stand on Him, we will be safe. (John 14:6)
But we have our part to play in all of this. The foundation has been laid, and it is sure. But we, as believers in Jesus, can not make haste. We can not get in a hurry because the timing during this season doesn’t seem to fit our plans. As fully devoted followers of Christ, we never want to be like a little child and run out ahead of our Heavenly Father’s will. It is unwise to lean upon our own understanding, make our plans, and expect God to bless them. In this season, it is so imperative that we know God’s will to understand His timing. Now more than ever, we need to be walking right alongside God and following His will every step of the way. In fact, it would be a little bit better to be behind in following God’s plans rather than way out ahead.
So how do we navigate God’s timing during this season? By taking time to fall upon “The Rock” in prayer and seek God’s wisdom as to what is next. By drawing into God through His Word so we can be assured of His will and withstand the storm of COVID-19. Now is the time to be still and know that He is God. He will lead us, He will guide us. All we need do is trust His sure foundation and track with Him!
PRAYER: Father God, in Jesus’ name, help me not to get out ahead of you nor lag behind. Help me to hear your voice, obey your purposes, and always be right on time. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
