Day Ten
Pastor Frank Aprea
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31 (NIV)

Have you ever heard the expression, “There is just not enough time in a day?“ I believe that is so true. So many of us work 40 hours plus at our jobs, come home, try to spend time with our spouse, and go to as many of our children’s sporting events or recitals while trying to be a part of everything our church provides to help us grow in our relationship with the Lord Jesus. We act like the mouse on the wheel running so fast but getting nowhere, just tired and burnt out. Jesus’s disciples experienced this. In Mark 6, they were so busy doing the work of the ministry that they didn’t even have time to eat. Jesus being the good leader, sees this is not healthy for them, and he immediately gives them exactly what they need, a break. He says, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Rest is God’s gift to us. It enables us to recharge our batteries. The disciples needed to unplug. I can see them now eating and laughing with Jesus, just chilling out. This refreshed Jesus and the disciples and gave them the strength they needed to continue. Right after this rest, Jesus performed one of his biggest miracles, the feeding of the five thousand. So many times, Jesus is calling us to rest, but we ignore him. We think if we just keep going, everything will be fine. Jesus knows it won’t. He knows we will crash and burn. He knows we need that rest to have the strength to be our best and enjoy our job, family, and church life. So let’s listen to Jesus and take a break!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you that rest is a gift from you. Help me to come away with you and get some rest. I know that I will have the strength I need to be the best in every area of my life by doing this. Thank you, Father God, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
