Focus for Fast:

Will You Be Made Whole?

Matthew 6:16-18 (NIV) “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (MSG) May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it!

John 10:10 (NIV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 5:6 (KJ21) When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been in that state a long time, He said unto him, “Wilt thou be made whole?”

Prayer

As you prepare for the next 21 days, it can be tempting to start thinking of a laundry list of prayers you’d love to see answered. But we really want to encourage you to keep this simple. Stay focused on the prayer goals and zone in on those with God.

When praying, make your primary goal to know Jesus more and experience Him. Pray prayers of total surrender, and aim to glorify God with your life. Focus first on what’s right about Him, such as his goodness and His greatness, and see everything else through that filter.

And most simply, make time to pray daily. Don’t over-complicate this! Just talk to God. Have that place and time where you can seek Him every day. If you don’t plan to pray, you won’t. If you find it a challenge to disconnect from the busyness of your day, engaging in worship music is a great way to prepare your heart for prayer.

Fasting

During this season of 21 Days of Prayer, we encourage fasting as a spiritual next step that can bring clarity and revelation into your life. You can also choose to fast at other times of the year as you seek God.

Do not let what you eat or do not eat become the focus of your fast. Keep the main thing the main thing, which is drawing closer to God. Remember, this is a time to disconnect enough from your regular patterns and habits in order to connect more closely to God.

Daily Devotionals

To help you during the fast, our Pastoral Staff Team has selected scriptures and written devotionals for you to read, pray, and reflect on each day. Check back here or on our Facebook page to follow along together.

Day Eleven

Have you ever read the Bible and thought, "What in the heck?" I still find potions of Scripture difficult to understand or even agree with at times. I hope that it is ok that I admit that I am challenged by the Word of God at times in my limited understanding. The...

Day Ten

Have you ever heard the expression, “There is just not enough time in a day?“ I believe that is so true. So many of us work 40 hours plus at our jobs, come home, try to spend time with our spouse, and go to as many of our children’s sporting events or recitals while...

Good sleep promotes good health. Sleep represents a third of every person's life, and it has a tremendous impact on how we live, function, and perform during the other two-thirds of our lives. It is as vital as the air we breathe and the food we eat, especially for...

Have you ever been out in the summertime when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, came a downpour! I mean a full-on gusher, and sadly you left your umbrella at home! You know what happens next – right, you're going to get drenched.  Covering during a rainstorm is...

Day Four

Day Four

We need to embrace the truth; we are only as sick as our secrets. Guilt and shame cause us to hide. Our failures are an embarrassment to us that we work so hard to hide from others. We fear the sting of rejection. But because we hide, we can't be ourselves, and we...
